Adam Silver on not running it back with a 3-point shootout, possibly including Caitlin Clark: 'it just felt forced'
NBA fans were hopeful for a Part II 3-point battle between Steph Curry and Sabrina Ionescu — one that may also include Caitlin Clark and Klay Thompson. "It just didn't feel right" Adam Silver said.
Two weeks ago, Caitlin Clark announced through her representatives that she would not take part in NBA All-Star Saturday night. She appreciated the interest and possibilities, but wanted her first 3-point contest as a pro to be for the WNBA — and in Indianapolis this upcoming July.
This comes one year after one of the biggest highlights of Indy’s All-Star Weekend in 2024 was a 3-point shootout between Steph Curry and Sabrina Ionescu. That was on a special LED court and in front of 35,000 fans at Lucas Oil Stadium too.
The idea was to not only keep it going, but to also add to it.
Clark is super popular and helped take the WNBA to new heights in just her rookie season — in which she was voted both Rookie of the Year and First Team All-WNBA.
Klay Thompson, who is now in Dallas but was a 2011 draft pick of the Warriors and won four NBA championships there, was a fourth name floated out. Imagine two rounds of shooting and then one winner.
Ultimately, none of it progressed to the final stage which led to it being scheduled as part of NBA Saturday Night on TNT. Worst of all, Curry, the greatest shooter of all-time, was also not in the 3-point contest lineup. That’s a shame, especially in front of his home fans at the Chase Center.
Miami’s Tyler Herro edged former Pacer Buddy Hield in the finals.
Shortly before Saturday nights got going in San Francisco, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver held a press conference with reporters. So, of course, this was brought up.
