As the Indiana Fever made a push to the FIBA World Cup break, head coach Stephanie White reminded her team to be where your feet are.
Last Friday, the Fever recorded back-to-back wins of at least 20 points by handling the Connecticut Sun by 20 points. They’re 26-14, the most wins in franchise history, and they went into the break on a high note.
Now, as the WNBA hit pause on the season with four games to go, most of the team could finally relax knowing a week of vacation was coming.
White, however, quickly turned the page to her next role — one of three assistant coaches under Kara Lawson for the World Cup in Berlin, along with Natalie Nakase (Golden State Valkyries) and Nate Tibbetts (Phoenix Mercury).
Games get underway on Friday — Team USA face China at 8:15 a.m. ET — and White has the first opponent scout.
She had done some prep work, but once her feet were on the plane heading across the Atlantic Ocean, she opened her computer and shifted her attention to Team USA.
Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston headed out the next day, as both players were named to the 12-player roster. They’ve both participated in several USA Basketball camps, but this will be their first time playing in the World Cup.
