Caitlin Clark enjoys Indy sports weekend — at Butler, Colts game, then featured on 60 Minutes
The Fever season ended last week, but Caitlin Clark has already appeared at two local sporting events. Plus, a feature on her appeared on CBS' 60 Minutes after NFL.
Caitlin Clark’s rookie season abruptly ended Wednesday in Connecticut.
They returned home late that night following a Game 2 loss to the Connecticut Sun, and had exit interviews with the coaches on Thursday. Then on Friday, players met with local reporters for one final interview before training camp next April.
Clark has been in the spotlight for essentially 12 months in a row, first at the University of Iowa and leading them to a second consecutive NCAA championship game. And then being the No. 1 draft pick, getting right to it with the Fever and being scheduled for 11 games in the first 20 days.
Now?
She’s not sure what’s next.
“I feel like basketball has really consumed my life for a year,” Clark said last week after her final WNBA game this year.
“I feel like it'll be good for me to kind of reflect back on everything that's happened. … It’ll definitely be probably a little weird for me over the course of the first couple of weeks. And then I'm sure I'll get bored and pick up a basketball again.”
That said, so much of her life is about sports and the relationships within it.
So on Saturday, she was at Hinkle Fieldhouse to support her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, who recently moved on from his job with the Pacers to become an assistant coach for the Butler men’s basketball team. Butler held an open practice for fans prior to the Bulldogs’ football game.
Then on Sunday, Clark was in a suite at the Colts’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was joined by Connor and his brother, Patrick. Plus, teammate Lexie Hull.
It’s the second Colts game she’s attended this season.
Toward the end of the first half, they played Who Ya Got? during a timeout, and finished with Clark.
The Haters or Caitlin Clark. (As you see in the photo at the top.)
Then they cut to Clark sitting at the game. (During the slide earlier, it was Pittsburgh Pat McAfee vs Colts’ Pat McAfee. The Colts were playing his hometown team.)
Later Sunday, Clark was featured in a feature on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that aired after their NFL doubleheader. It also included interviews with her teammate Aliyah Boston and Lynx forward Napheesa Collier.
About three weeks ago, a seven-person crew spent several days in Indy for the feature.
