Caitlin Clark named Rookie of the Month for her first month in the WNBA
Clark was named WNBA Rookie of the Month for May after leading all rookies in points, field goals, 3-pointers, free throws, assists and minutes played.
Caitlin Clark earned dozens of awards in college and ultimately finished her four-year career at the University of Iowa as the all-time leading scorer in college basketball.
Now, Clark has earned her first award as a pro.
On Monday, the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft was named Rookie of the Month for May — the first month of the season.
Clark followed the lead of her teammate Aliyah Boston, who earned that honor in three of her first four months in the WNBA last season.
Clark averaged 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game while playing 33 minutes per game. She also became just the second player in WNBA history, joining New York’s Sabrina Ionescu, to record at least 150 points, 50 rebounds and 50 rebounds in the first 10 games.
The wins were not there — a combination of inexperience, lack of playing time and a brutal game schedule — as the Fever started the season 2-9, but Clark has been impactful on and off the court.
And she’s done it in such a short time. It’s been less than two months since she played her final collegiate game, losing to South Carolina in the national championship game. She then had a couple of appearances, followed by the WNBA Draft. Then she returned home for a week — and has been full-go since.
The Fever took Monday and Tuesday off, and return to game action Friday at Washington.
Also of note: Connecticut Sun head coach Stephanie White — the former Indiana high school, Purdue and Fever standout (as well as Fever coach) — was named Coach of the Month for May. The Sun are 8-0, the league’s only undefeated them.
She was also WNBA Coach of the Year last season, her first leading the Sun.
