Caitlin Clark tries a new angle, photographing Pacers-Lakers
Clark took photos courtside at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, capturing LeBron James in her first NBA game behind the lens. She also headlined a women’s empowerment event with Uber on Tuesday.
Caitlin Clark is one of basketball’s elite shooters.
On Wednesday night, she had a camera in her hands instead.
Wearing a navy photographer’s bib over a black jacket and jeans, the Fever star settled in courtside at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to capture Pacers-Lakers from a new angle.
Clark has been out of town for most of the last three weeks. She went from USA Basketball training camp to playing in her first game in eight months, winning the FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament in San Juan and being named tournament MVP.
She was positioned in the second spot on the floor, at the north west corner of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, just in front of Tyrese Haliburton’s four courtside seats — and where she’ll occasionally sit.
Sitting on a custom navy foldable cushion with her logo on it, Clark sat next to veteran photographer Ron Hoskins, a regular at games snapping photos for NBA Entertainment. He’s shot Pacers games for 36 years now — from games at Market Square Arena to The Fieldhouse.
This was something different for her — with the only goal, I’m told, to simply produce some fun content. She was using a Sony camera with a 70-200 lens.
“Got some good stuff coming,” Clark tweeted afterward.
Photography is something Clark casually picked up last summer for fun while sidelined with injuries. She took photos while on the road and at shootaround. Then, photographer (and friend) Bri Lewerke ingested and posted the photos on social media.
To make the experience even more special for Clark, she got to photograph her favorite player: LeBron James.
It was just one year ago when Clark met James, 41, for the first time after the Lakers’ annual game in Indy.
Before the second half, Clark changed seats — taking off the bib and sitting in row 1 near center court between her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, and minority team owner Steven Rales.
Replacing Clark in the coveted photographer spot was another sharpshooter — former Pacer C.J. Miles. He’s always been a creative and expressive person.
He wrote and recorded songs while in the NBA; he’s become fascinated by photography; and he’s on here with his own Substack: MasFresco.
Clark Appears at Uber Game-Changers Event
One day earlier, Clark was back in Miami, Fla. for an event with a partner.
This time, it was Uber.
On Tuesday, The ride-sharing company hosted a women-empowerment event called “Women Change the Game.” This two-hour event allowed for women to network, get expert career coaching, and provided support to improve their LinkedIn profile (which included a complimentary headshot to use).
Clark was the featured guest, promoted as a “game-changing celebrity athlete.”
And that’s exactly what she is.
Clark participated in a Q&A and helped provide advice for the women in the audience.
