Defense, irrational confidence and playing alongside top talent at Arizona: Dalen Terry works out for the Pacers, will stay in the draft

The 6-7 guard has seen his stock rise over the last month and he met with the Pacers again on Tuesday. He's 19 and projected to go in the first round.

Dalen Terry worked with Rick Carlisle for about 15 minutes after the session was over.

By the time reporters were allowed into the St. Vincent Center gym on Tuesday, the workout session was over. The Pacers brought in another six players for testing and evaluation on the court.

But down at the south west basket, Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle was working individually with one player.

That was University of Arizona guard Dalen Terry. He just completed his second season and has a decision to make by Wednesday. June 1 is the NCAA’s deadline for early entrants to remove their name from the draft and maintain college eligibility.

Carlisle talked with Terry about his shot, defense and having the right mentality. This wasn’t their first time meeting, though. They spoke a few weeks ago at the Draft Combine in Chicago.

“I respect him so much, heard so many stories about him,” Terry said. “If I stay in the draft, hopefully I get drafted here. He’s a legendary coach, honestly, so him being there and talking to me, I just thank him for that.”
