Fever add preseason game at Iowa, expect 'unforgettable homecoming' for Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark's No. 22 Iowa jersey will be retired on Sunday (Feb. 2). Then three months later, Clark will be back at Carver-Hawkeye Arena as the Fever play an exhibition game.
The Indiana Fever continue to be all-in on Caitlin Clark, who has completely changed the game for everyone involved in women’s basketball. The latest example came on Thursday when the Fever shared an update to their preseason schedule, which was announced last month.
After hosting the Washington Mystics at 1 p.m. ET on May 3, the team will fly to Iowa City.
Then on Sunday (May 4), they will play an exhibition game against the Brazilian National Team in what will be a special and memorable day for Clark, who is one year removed from leading the Hawkeyes to back-to-back NCAA national championship games.
It’s also a return home for Clark, who is from Des Moines.
As for her fans? It’s going to be the hottest ticket in town.
“We couldn’t be more excited to play at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and we know Iowa fans will deliver an unforgettable homecoming for Caitlin,” said team president Kelly Krauskopf. “Countless Hawkeye fans have become Fever fans, and we consider them family. That’s what will make this preseason matchup so special for us.”
It’s rare for a professional sports team to play on a college campus. The Pacers played the Spurs at IU’s Assembly Hall in Bloomington back in 2009.
This preseason game will be run by ProHoops Sports & Entertainment. Tickets will be run through the University of Iowa, and more information will be announced at a later date.
Fever forward Damiris Dantas is from Brazil and played on their Olympic Team in both 2012 and 2016.
The Fever have one preseason road game scheduled for May 10 in Atlanta.
The timing of this announcement leads into a celebratory weekend for Clark at her alma mater. Iowa will be retiring her No. 22 jersey immediately following their home game against No. 4 USC on Sunday (1:30 p.m. ET).
The game, as well as the jersey retirement ceremony, will be televised by Fox.
“I'm forever proud to be a Hawkeye and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball,” Clark said in a statement. “It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up in the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I've admired for so long.”

In Clark’s final season at Iowa, her team played DePaul in front of 55,646 fans — an NCAA single-game record for attendance in women’s basketball — at the football stadium, Kinnick Stadium.
Clark posted a triple-double.
This continues the flurry of news from the team this week; it’s been something each day, and all good.
And just like week, while overseas in Paris, All-Star Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton — who played at rival Iowa State University — was asked about her.
“I think when it comes to the game of basketball,” he said, “she's probably top five most famous people that are playing right now. Just in general, that includes our league as well. And she handles it with such grace and she's like such a cool person. At the end of the day, she's just a girl from Iowa who's just really good at basketball and it's really cool to see what she does.”
