Fever shake off ugly start, outlast Mercury in physical, emotional finish
Indiana was outscored 19-6 in the first quarter, then dominated the middle two quarters before holding on through a foul-heavy, tension-filled fourth.
The Indiana Fever overcame an awful first quarter and a physical, tension-filled fourth to beat the Phoenix Mercury 86-77 on Monday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
It was the first meeting of the season between the two teams — somehow, after the Fever had already played Atlanta three times in their first 16 games — and now they’ll see Phoenix twice in a row, with the Mercury back in Indianapolis again Wednesday night.
