Fever emphasize defense, stacking days — and add Chloe Bibby on 7-day deal
The Fever used a rare practice to tighten up defensively and sharpen their offensive execution — with newcomer Chloe Bibby joining the group.
Can you believe it’s been a week since the WNBA descended upon Indianapolis for what was arguably the best All-Star weekend in league history?
The Fever didn’t have much time — if any — to reflect on it. They practiced the very next day and are now in the middle of a demanding stretch: three games in six days, each in a different city.
They did enjoy a much-needed day off on Friday, but were right back at it Saturday before busing up to Chicago for a featured matchup against the Sky — a game moved to the United Center to meet the overwhelming demand to see superstar Caitlin Clark.
Clark, however, will not be playing. However, the Fever gained more understanding on her situation after she met with multiple doctors over the last week.
Head coach Stephanie White has the rest of the roster available, and on Saturday, she finally held a full practice — something she had been wanting for weeks.
“Just addressing some slippage on the defensive end, making sure we work some offensive execution, timing, understanding really what we're trying to get on the offensive end of the floor and just use this as an opportunity to do some full speed stuff, get up and down a little bit,” she said.
Players have repeated it throughout the season: success for this team starts on the defensive end. They have enough scoring options, but when they get stops, they can push the pace and keep opposing defenses on their heels.
