Catching up with Sophie Cunningham: Repaired knee is 'feeling really good' and 'ahead of schedule'
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is recovering from a torn MCL suffered last season. She discussed her rehab progress, offseason travels, and return to community events in Indianapolis.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is on the mend. She’s recovering from right knee surgery to repair a torn MCL — an injury she suffered in Connecticut back in August.
“I’m like, ‘holy shit,’” head coach Stephanie White said at the time. Because it was here we go again.
It was also a game that was memorable for the emotions — and the team’s response. It was a historic comeback, rallying from a 21-point hole to win in overtime. And it’s the game the team points to as a turning point en route to Game 5 of the semifinals despite finishing the season with eight players unavailable.
“I’m just so incredibly proud of them for continuing to believe, for continuing to pull together, for continuing to step up,” White told reporters afterward. “I mean, every single person on this roster impacts winning for us. And every single person on this roster is valued for how they impact winning, whether they play a second or not. They give and give and give to this team. And I’m thankful for this group.”
Now three months later, Cunningham continues to make progress in her return. You can hear from her weekly on her successful podcast that she launched during the season or promoting products for a growing list of endorsements — and you can see her Wednesday as she joins Lexie Hull as celebrity caddies while Caitlin Clark plays in Pro-Am for The ANNIKA in Belleair, Fla.
Cunningham has had an eventful offseason. She’s been traveling the country. She returned home to Missouri, went to New York City for an endorsement deal, and has spent time in Florida, where she’s returning for the Pro-Am.
Before heading to Florida, Cunningham returned to Indianapolis for a few days last week. She sat courtside with Jade Jones, Tyrese Haliburton’s fiancé, for the Pacers’ loss to the Brooklyn Nets at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
