Fever top Mystics in wire-to-wire win and team vibes are on the rise
The Indiana Fever went 3-0 on their homestand and handled the Washington Mystics Wednesday night for their first four-game home win streak since 2015.
Well, would you look at that…
The Indiana Fever’s schedule has lightened up, they’ve had legitimate practice time and as a result, they’re just now hitting their stride.
Remember, this was a 13-win team last season that earned the right to make the first-overall selection for the second year in a row. Things got worse before they got better.
After a punishing 11-game stretch to begin the season — you know it by now, 11 games in 20 days — the Fever have welcomed this current stretch of games. And on Wednesday, with the Washington Mystics in town, the Fever jumped on them from the start and never trailed.
The Fever shot 51%, won the inside game and got 77 of their 88 points from their starts in a 88-81 win over the Mystics (2-13). And for the first time since 2015, this franchise has won four consecutive home games.
Even more, they're 4-1 following their 2-9 start.
There were plenty of smiles, laughs and lighthearted moments during the team’s postgame press conference that featured three starters at the same time because of their balanced attack.
Kelsey Mitchell made 4-of-5 3-pointers and finished with 22 points, Aliyah Boston had 22 points and eight rebounds. And then rookie guard Caitlin Clark flirted, once again, with a triple-double: 18 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, along with four steals.
The Fever (6-10) are winning games they should now that a grueling start to the season is behind them. Still, every game is within one possession late. They need to improve on their fourth quarters and being able to distance themselves.
But right now, and following a 2-9 start, you take every win you can get.
Now they head on the road for five in a row, first in Atlanta and Chicago, and then three more games out west. They’re not at home again until July 6th.
