Fever waive Shatori Walker-Kimbrough after five games
Walker-Kimbrough appeared in two games for Indiana after earning a roster spot out of training camp, leaving the Fever with one open roster spot.
The Indiana Fever waived Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, the team announced Thursday afternoon.
She signed a training camp contract with the Fever on April 16, and then was on a one-year, non-guaranteed deal.
Walker-Kimbrough, who turned 31 on Monday, said she was most impressed by the professionalism of the organization, the energy around the team and the high expectations.
“I came into training camp knowing that I have a great opportunity, but I never take any opportunity for granted,” she said before the season-opener. “So coming in, being a part of a great organization and being able to be under a great coach like Steph White and alongside great players, great opportunity, (and I) want to take advantage of it.”
She was excited entering her 10th WNBA season.
“It’s a great time to not only be a part of the WNBA and women’s sports at this time, but just also be a fan of it as well,” she said. “The talent is getting better. It’s been great, but also just getting the recognition. It’s a blessing to be a part of.”
The veteran guard entered the league in 2017 and spent last season with Atlanta. She appeared in two games for the Fever this season, including Wednesday’s 17-point win over the Portland Fire. She played 3 minutes, 18 seconds in that game.
Following the transaction, the Fever now have one open roster spot. The new Collective Bargaining Agreement — which has not yet been 100% completed and distributed — requires teams to carry 12 players on the roster, meaning another move is expected sooner rather than later.
The Fever return to the court Friday to host the Golden State Valkyries (7:30 p.m. ET). After that, they will have five days between games — valuable time for rest and practice.
