Gradey Dick dines with Kevin Pritchard, completes solo workout for the Pacers
After one season at Kansas, shooting 40% from range and earning a Green Room invite, Gradey Dick looks forward to becoming a pro.
The pre-draft process is wrapping up soon with the 2023 NBA Draft just one week away. The latest stop for Kansas wing Gradey Dick was Indianapolis on Thursday.
He’s worked out for a half-dozen teams and is about done, but said he’s been locked into the process and enjoying it.
“I think the main thing I try to come out here to do is be consistent with what I’ve been doing that’s got me here,” Dick said after his workout with the Pacers. “Be true to myself, be the player that they have me coming in to be.”
In front of more than two dozen coaches, scouts and team staffers, the Pacers put Dick through an individual workout — their fifth during this draft cycle. And now one week out from the draft, all of their scouts are now in Indy, including international scouts Jose Galilea and Aleksandar Pajovic.
All of Dick’s pre-draft workouts have been solo. He’s expected to be a lottery pick, off the board within the top 14 selections.
“The solo 1-on-1s can be tiring, but that’s what I need as a player — to come into a team and be conditioned and ready to do what I do,” he said.
“I think it’s really nice seeing a lot of the different cities, you can kind of tell if it’s either a good city, good environment or if it’s just good people. When you come here, you have the best of both worlds and that’s what catches my eye.”
Dick shared that he had dinner with Pacers president Kevin Pritchard the night before his workout. This is one of the most valuable parts to a visit — and not everyone gets to dine with the team president.
