Fever stay in the hunt thanks to elite resilience, togetherness
With only nine healthy players — and no true PG — the Fever leaned on Kelsey Mitchell’s leadership, Lexie Hull’s hot shooting, and their togetherness to bounce back from a brutal night in Phoenix.
Happy Monday, everyone.
The Fever are at home twice more this week — Tuesday and Friday — and the NBA regular-season schedule will be released on Thursday. So, nope, no let up this summer.
Short on players, the Fever were allowed to add a player using the hardship exception. So on Sunday, they added veteran Odyssey Sims on a 7-day contract.
Caitlin Clark remains out due to injury. She last played on July 15 and has yet to return to practice. “She's been able to get a little bit more in her full court running with all of her body weight,” Stephanie White said Monday. “It's really building up from doing minimal to then building some endurance to do longer periods of time. She's been able to do a little bit more on the court in terms of how she moves…”
Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers (back) is probable for Tuesday. The game airs nationally on ESPN.
Kelsey Mitchell now leads the WNBA in total points this season with 637.
Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull joined eBay Live on Sunday to sign memorabilia and connect with fans in real-time. Another example of WNBA players maximizing their platform and visibility, especially on the Fever.
The Fever celebrated Lin Dunn after Monday’s practice. General manager Amber Cox announced to the team that Dunn was the recipient of the Inspiring Women award — and that going forward, it would be named after Dunn. (Click here for video)
