Kristy Wallace to sit out 2025 WNBA season
The Aussie guard was drafted by Atlanta, then spent the past two seasons with the Indiana Fever and playing for coach Christie Sides. Now, neither will return for the 2025 season.
Kristy Wallace will not be with the Indiana Fever this upcoming season.
The Aussie guard has elected to sit out the 2025 WNBA season, the team announced on Tuesday. Officially, her contract will be suspended and the Fever retain her playing rights.
“This has not been an easy decision for me, but one that I make knowing it is what is in my best interest at this time,” Wallace said in a statement. “I would like to thank the Fever organization for working with me throughout this process, giving me both time and consideration, and for their support of my decision. I look forward to cheering the team on from afar during this upcoming season.”
It was a rocky, roller coster type season for the 29 year old. She went from starting and playing about 20 minutes per game in the first few months to rarely checking into games in the second half to the season.
She only played two minutes in their two-game playoff series with Connecticut. That’s difficult on any player.
“That's normal over the season, and I'm always prepared for that, for roles to change,” she said, taking the high road at her exit interview. “Whatever the team needs me in whatever stage of the season, I'm prepared to give them that and whatever they need.”
On top of a significant decline in minutes, she was the one Fever player not around during the All-Star break. Instead, she won a bronze medal with Australia in the Paris Olympics. She appeared in three of the six games.
Achieving that dream with her country helped get her through the ups and downs.
“It was a really special year,” Wallace said. “I've been working towards the Olympics my whole life, so to finally tick that off and get a medal was really special.
