The Pacers will have 15 games televised for free this season across Central Indiana on either WTTV (CBS4) or WXIN (FOX59), beginning with their home opener on Oct. 23 against the Dallas Mavericks.
The games are part of an agreement between DAZN, the Pacers’ new local streaming partner, and Nexstar Media Group, which owns both Indianapolis stations.
This announcement comes one month after the Pacers shared their new local broadcast arrangement, moving away from the regional sports network model after decades. DAZN will now stream the team’s locally-produced games as part of a subscription, including 22 regular-season games available for free.
“We are thrilled to partner with DAZN to give Indiana Pacers fans more ways to watch and support their team,” said Matthew Rosenfeld, Executive Vice President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Serving local viewers is at the heart of everything we do, and this partnership combines the reach of local television with the convenience of streaming, making Pacers basketball accessible wherever and however fans choose to watch.”
Outside of Indianapolis, Nexstar stations WTVW in Evansville and WCIX in Champaign, Illinois will also simulcast these 15 games. And more stations across Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky are expected, but not yet finalized.
Thirteen of the 15 games will air on Thursdays or Fridays.
The move to DAZN represents a significant change in how Pacers games are distributed. So does the decision to partner with Nexstar for over-the-air broadcasts. Pacers Sports & Entertainment has a longstanding partnership with WTHR, the NBC affiliate, which previously aired select Pacers and Fever games.
Unlike teams such as the Suns and Jazz, which made their local broadcasts available for free over the air, the Pacers have primarily moved to a subscription-based streaming model.
The decision to simulcast 15 games on local TV is as much about marketing DAZN and reaching potential subscribers as it is about distribution.
“This partnership gives local fans of the Indiana Pacers greater choice and access by making 15 of the team’s games free-to-view,” said Shay Segev, CEO of DAZN Group. “Together with Nexstar, we’re making it easier for more basketball fans to watch the Pacers live, while delivering a richer streaming experience on DAZN throughout the season.”
DAZN is not available through traditional cable or satellite distributors. A subscription starts at $19.99 per month or $119.99 for the season, with a seven-day free trial available. However, 22 regular-season Pacers games will be available for free on DAZN, including the 15 games airing on CBS4 and FOX59. Fans only need to create a free account to watch those games. No credit card is required.
DAZN will stream all four Pacers preseason games.
