2022 NBA Draft — Pacers' options, key quotes and what I'm hearing
The Pacers have picks 6, 31, 58 for now. Will they move up or add another pick by the end of the night?
BROOKLYN — You are looking inside the Barclays Center, home to the 2022 NBA Draft.
Pacers fans have a lot to be excited about as the team will soon draft at least a few players to be part of its core moving forward.
After hosting 54 players over 14 pre-draft workouts, they’re prepared to make the call into the NBA when they’re on the clock. And the one doing that will be Ryan Carr, the vice president of player personnel.
“If I would've told my 12-year-old self that was a job I'd have one day, I probably wouldn't have believed it,” he said earlier this week. “There's phones ringing, we're going through just making sure Kevin (Pritchard) has all the information to make quick decisions, that we have all that information readily available and on hand. I have as much as I could pack in my brain ready. I have everything else in front of me just to make sure that all questions could be answered.”
Team officials are in what has become known as the War Room, but it’s just a conference room inside the St. Vincent Center.
By now, their draft board is finalized. They’ve spent the last few days using their contacts and resources to call around to better understand what the other five teams ahead of them plan to do. Like with anything, information is key.
Sacramento is at 4, Detroit at 5.
With picks 6, 31 and 58, the Pacers are set to have their highest selection since 1988.
That’s why I chose to attend the draft. This is arguably the franchise’s biggest offseason in decades. It begins Thursday night with the draft, where they have to get it right.
