Dr. Jaimie Rubin joined the Indiana Pacers in a newly-created position centered around mental health. She started in Sept. 2024 after previously working with the Minnesota Twins and Lynx.
To be honest I have not thought too much on this position. Do you know how this works? Is it just a “open door” policy for players to use if they want?
Absolutely. Dr. Adam Shunk has been the one players and coaches could go to. And they did. When they were feeling down, and when things were going well. That was one thing players have told me -- it's not something they want to go to only when life is tough, their role has changed or things aren't going well on the court. It's just another resource, someone to privately talk things through.
