Pacers guard Kam Jones faces two charges after arrest Monday morning
Indiana rookie guard Kam Jones was arrested near downtown Indianapolis and faces charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement, days before the team’s season opener.
Indiana Pacers rookie guard Kam Jones was pulled over and arrested near downtown Indianapolis on Monday morning. He was booked in the Marion County Adult Detention Center, facing charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement.
He has a hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday — which is opening night for the Pacers, when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The new was first reported by WTHR-13 in Indianapolis.
According to Indiana State Police, around 9:50 a.m. Oct. 20, a trooper tried to pull Jones over for alleged erratic driving on southbound I-65 near the North Split. Police say Jones did not pull over at first and led them on a brief chase that ended near the Fletcher Avenue exit near Fountain Square in Indianapolis.
The team issued the following statement to WTHR:
“We are aware of the situation involving Kam Jones. We are in the process of gathering additional information and will not have any additional comment on the matter at this time.”
The Pacers practiced on Sunday, but had Monday off.
In the meantime, the front office must finalize its Opening Night roster by 5 ET and given the numerous injuries to their point guard, they are considering all options for short-term help. They waived veteran guard Cam Payne on Sunday, 10 days after waiving Delon Wright.
Jones, in his booking photo, appeared to still be wearing a navy long-sleeve Lacoste polo that was part of his Halloween party costume from the previous night.
The Pacers signed Jones — a 23-year-old out of Marquette — to a four-year deal worth $8.7 million after selecting him 38th overall in June’s NBA Draft.
He has been unavailable in training camp due to a back injury and is expected to be sidelined for at least three more weeks.
