Pacers Notebook: No extension for Isaiah Jackson, one roster spot open, Swider stays in division, more staff notes
Lots of Pacers news before a new season: Isaiah Jackson enters a contract year, Indiana begins season with one free roster spot, Eddie Gill to be heard for all 82, Haliburton's Halloween, more notes.
Rosters for opening night officially became set at 5 p.m. ET on Monday. Then, teams faced at 6 p.m. ET deadline to negotiate rookie-scale contract extensions.
For the Pacers, 2021 first-round pick Isaiah Jackson was eligible for one but they did not come to an agreement. No surprise there.
What it now means is that both centers they drafted, first Myles Turner (2015) and then Jackson, will be in contract years this upcoming season. That’s good motivation, however it can sometimes be a concern.
Next summer, Jackson will be a restricted free agent, which allows for the Pacers to match any deal. They are narrowly below the luxury tax threshold for this season, but may have to go into the tax to keep their players next year. And they are able to re-sign their own, like Turner and/or Jackson, should they be a tax team.
Jackson’s qualifying offer is $6.42 million.
