Pacers add depth at center — what to expect from Moses Brown
The Pacers had two centers suffer torn Achilles within 10 days. Then Myles Turner joined the injury report. They called up 7-foot-2 Moses Brown, and a former coach of his offers a scouting report.
The Indiana Pacers have addressed their need at center.
In the midst of a three-game road trip, the Pacers have signed 7-foot-2 center Moses Brown to a non-guaranteed contract.
A move like this was needed after backup centers James Wiseman and Isaiah Jackson each tore an Achilles tendon within 10 days from each other — which is unheard of. Wiseman’s happened just minutes into his Pacers debut, in Detroit for the season opener.
Since then, the team’s front office, in collaboration with pro scouts, have been canvasing the league to consider their options.
Sign a free agent (but, remember, there’s usually a reason they are unsigned)
Complete a trade — and the challenge here is that many players cannot be traded until mid-December, severely limiting the field available
Sign a player out of the G League (note: two-way players are untouchable)
The Pacers chose option three.
Moses Brown was the selection and he joined the Pacers in Houston on Wednesday. He will wear No. 3.
Here’s what you need to know about him, plus a former coach offers a scouting report.
