Pacers analytics VP Spencer Anderson earns 40 Under 40 honor
A key asset behind the Pacers’ analytics-driven approach, Anderson has advanced within the organization since 2013.

Spencer Anderson has been named to the Indiana Business Journal’s annual 40 Under 40 list.
A behind-the-scenes presence, Anderson has quietly played a key role in helping the Pacers search for competitive advantages.
“Well deserved!” tweeted team president Kevin Pritchard.
Anderson, 39, joined the franchise in 2013 and has earned several promotions, rising to Vice President of Basketball Analytics and Strategy. He received his undergraduate, MBA, and law degrees from the University of Iowa.
“I’m constantly curious about how technology, data and analytics can create an edge — whether that’s improving decision-making, optimizing performance or uncovering insights others might overlook,” he said in the IBJ feature.
In addition to Anderson, the Pacers have six others working in data and analytics: Preston Klaus, Colin Barrett, Lauren James, Yashwant Kumar, Hersh Gupta, and Grant Cottingham. Together, the group supports the front office and coaching staff in identifying edges wherever possible.
“Spencer Anderson for fucking president,” Carlisle said back in Jan. 2022 after success with the undersized Terry Taylor, who went undrafted out of Austin Peay.
“Spencer identified him coming out of college as a guy that had very favorable analytic data and we brought him in for a workout. There was not much interest in him around the league.”
Peter Dinwiddie is the last Pacers executive — albeit a former one — to make the list, earning the honor in 2017.
