Check out 100 photos from the Indiana Fever’s 79-74 overtime victory over the Washington Mystics to begin preseason play. It was their first of three tune-up games, and the only one at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The photos were taken by Ryan May of 800 Meter Sports Photography. I hope you enjoy.
Caitlin Clark (left leg tightness) did not dress — out of an abundance of caution.
The Fever trailed 24-13 after 1 and trailed most of the game. Despite shooting 30%, they won because of their defense and going 27 of 28 at the free throw line.
Sophie Cunningham led the Fever with 21 points and eight rebounds. She paired well with guard Lexie Hull, a 3 & D specialist, who Cunningham said has the potential to be defensive player of the year. Hull added 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals — and was flying all over.
They played 11 of the available 14 players. Kelsey Mitchell finished with 12 points after going 0 for 9 in the first half. She drilled a 3-pointer to begin the second half.
Communication was elite. More to come on that.
The Mystics, with a new GM, coach, and three of the top six draft picks, were led by Brittney Sykes’ 18 points and rookie Sonia Citron added 15.
