Ryan Carr leaving Pacers to become executive director of IU men’s basketball
Longtime Pacers executive and former IU manager is returning to Bloomington to assist head coach Darian DeVries in roster construction, NIL strategy and recruiting.
Indiana Pacers front office executive Ryan Carr will be returning to his alma mater to become the executive director of the Indiana University men’s basketball program, a league source told Fieldhouse Files.
IU later announced the news on Monday.
When IU hired Darian DeVries one year ago to replace Mike Woodson, it also became clear the program would add someone in a general manager–type role. Carr was the first of five individuals with ties to the program that I mentioned as possibilities last March.
Carr is well-respected across the NBA. He’s organized, fiercely loyal and relentless in his job, which requires him to spend more than 100 nights each year on the road. He’s also well-connected at every level — a critical trait in this new position.
There’s not one agent he cannot call; there’s not one NBA team he cannot reach.
