Sources: 76ers hiring another Pacers assistant — Popeye Jones
Jones and Dan Burke will work on Doc Rivers' staff.
Another Pacers assistant coach is headed east. Popeye Jones has agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers to work on Doc Rivers’ staff, per league sources.
Jones was one of three Pacers assistants, along with Dan Burke and Bill Bayno, who is expected to be the only holdover from Nate McMillan to Nate Bjorkgren. Jones primarily worked with the Pacers’ bigs, specifically Myles Turner.
Jones, 50, joined the Pacers in 2013 and was the second-longest tenured Pacers assistant. Before being hired by Frank Vogel in Indy, Jones was a Nets assistant from 2010-13.
Burke, who was on staff since 1997 and was voted by GMs as the best assistant coach before last season, also is moving on to a new situation with the 76ers — where several significant changes have been made.
The 76ers hired Daryl Morey president, former Pacers executive Peter Dinwiddie, Rivers as head coach and many more.
As for the Pacers, first-year head coach Nate Bjorkgren is still in the process of hiring a coaching staff.
