Why would you buy him out and not get assests, $$$$, players, or draft future picks? Pacers only sent a 1 sentence line to the STH. It was not informative at all! Thanks

Because that requires a team to be willing to take on his $9.1 million salary for this season. Few teams even have the cap space to do that. If the Clippers wanted, it would have required a third team.

Of course they wanted assets. But there hasn't been a trade market for him. Maybe a second-rounder at best last summer.

So this allows for them to save some money — how much? we'll soon find out — and open a roster spot.

Any thoughts on what they're looking to do with the open roster spot?

No immediate plans that I'm aware of. Keep in mind, this was more so for Daniel — so he could move to a new situation where he could play. The best value for that spot could come in a few months, in the form of signing players to 10-day contracts and in making unequal trades before the deadline.
