Caitlin Clark named Player of the Week for the third week in a row: 'I feel like I'm starting to play good basketball'
Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark continues to exceed all expectations, becomes the first player in franchise history to win award three consecutive weeks.
The awards continue to come in for Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.
Clark, 22, was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week again on Tuesday — for the third consecutive week. This was for games from Sept. 2 through Sept. 9, a week in which she averaged 25 points, 7.7 rebounds and 10 assists per game.
There are six teams and about 72 players in each conference, and she continues to be at the top of the class. Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx won in the Western Conference.
Just four months into her pro career and she’s doing things we haven’t seen before.
“I feel like I've had an opportunity to adjust and get comfortable, and I feel like I'm starting to play good basketball,” Clark said last week. “At the same time, I feel like there's still so many ways that I can continue to improve and get better for this team.”
The Indiana Fever are 19-17, winners in eight of 10 games since the Olympic break, and they have four games left in the regular season.
“What I'm most proud of is we started 1-8 and that really stings,” Clark said at practice on Tuesday. “Nobody ever quit. We came in here every single day and continued to work. And we knew we had a hard schedule to start. We had a young group.
“But at the same time, I thought there was a few games even within that time we went 1-8 where we could have easily won as well, we just weren't executing. We weren't really on the same page. We weren't playing the same way that we are now. So I'm proud of our group. We just continued to work and get better and be positive.
“Not every day is going to be perfect. I think we found a way to battle when things don't go our way.”
Clark recorded her second triple-double last week and is also the most recent recipient of the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for August and the Rookie of the Month award. No one is playing better than Clark right now.
“She's a special player and we are really, really fortunate to have her in our league,” said LA Sparks head coach Curt Miller.
Watch what Clark, Aliyah Boston, and coach Christie Sides had to say after practice on Tuesday ahead of their two-game series with the Las Vegas Aces (Wednesday and Friday).
I have enjoyed watching this team improve in most facets of the game this season. I believe they will continue to improve in areas where they are weak. My one negative with the team is the increasing whining and complaining after EVERY play. If you complain and try to show the refs up on EVERY play there is no reason to believe you when you have a legitimate complaint.
