SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Less than 24 hours after Indiana Fever's season-opening win over the Chicago Sky, several team members made the short six-mile drive from Gainbridge Fieldhouse to the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway — home of the Indianapolis 500 and the largest single-day sporting event in the world.

Fever head coach Stephanie White had the honor of waving the green flag at 1 p.m. ET to begin Sunday’s IndyCar practice session. She was joined at the track by forward Aliyah Boston and rookie Makayla Timpson.

In 2022, Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings did the same alongside Mel Raines, CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment.

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White, joined by Boston and Timpson, on the flag stand at IMS on May 18, 2025.

White, who grew up in Indiana and starred at Purdue, knows what the Indy 500 means to the state. She fondly recalled attending qualifying sessions as a kid — her mother lived in Speedway — and said she was grateful to see the event from a new perspective.

“Just to be able to see it in a different level, a different angle, is a lot of fun,” she said before climbing up the flag stand and getting instructions to wave the green flag. “I've just been in the stands, getting my sunburn every month of May.”

She wore a red Fever t-shirt reading: Every Game is a Home Game.

In February, Fever guard Lexie Hull visited IMS to raise an IndyCar flag atop IMS Pagoda to signify the start of the racing season.

However, a first-time experience for both Boston and Timpson.
