Pacers Sports & Entertainment is teaming up with the Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A baseball team in downtown Indianapolis, for a summer night at the ballpark.

The Indians game against the Louisville Bats on Friday, Aug. 5 is “Pacers Sports & Entertainment night.”

And it will be the first chance for many fans to meet lottery pick Bennedict Mathurin. He’s one of four players scheduled to attend, along with Goga Bitadze, newcomer Aaron Nesmith and second-round pick Kendall Brown.

The players are scheduled to sign autographs in the center field plaza of Victory Field at 6:00 p.m., then will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. (Note: Players are subject to change.)

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the night will end with a bang — postgame fireworks from what is considered one of the best minor-league venues in baseball.

The Indians are the affiliate team of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Boomer and Freddy Fever will be on hand to interact with fans, along with Pacers season-ticket holders and team partners who are being hosted to the game. And the Pacemates are scheduled to perform as well.

Here’s a link to get tickets from the Indians. Lawn tickets are $12.

If you can’t make the game or are planning to attend the Indiana State Fair this weekend, the same four players are scheduled to visit and sign autographs inside a tent on State Fair Blvd. Sunday from noon to 1:00 p.m.

You may remember the photo at the top, back when local athletes and celebrities came together one night each summer for a charity softball game. It was the Caroline Symmes Celebrity Softball Challenge, co-hosted in the final years by Myles Turner and Robert Mathis of the Colts.

Ultimately, 2018 was the final year of the game after 10 straight years. It’s unfortunate because it was always a highlight each summer. Both Turner and Lance Stephenson played in the game.
