Johnny Furphy undergoes surgery on torn right ACL
About two weeks after sustaining a knee injury in Toronto, the Pacers guard had surgery to repair the torn ligament in his right knee.
Indiana Pacers guard Johnny Furphy underwent surgery on his torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his right knee and is officially out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, the team announced.
“Very successful,” head coach Rick Carlisle shared before the Pacers hosted the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, Feb. 24. “Everything went extremely well and so that’s great news.”
The injury occurred late in the third quarter of the Pacers’ 122-104 loss in Toronto on Feb. 8. Furphy finished an exciting one-handed jam, but then came down and immediately clutched his right knee.
Why the delay until surgery?
Doctors want to operate as soon as possible on a torn Achilles tendon, like with Tyrese Haliburton. But with torn ACLs, they want to wait for swelling in the knee to go down.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Brian Cole of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago. Furphy is represented by Priority Sports & Entertainment, which is based in Chicago.
It’s a positive that the team only mentioned one repair, a torn ACL.
“I thought this season he played extremely well and was getting better every day, had an opportunity to get minutes,” All-Star Pascal Siakam said of Furphy. “I just love his game. Just right now we just wish him a speedy recovery. Hopefully he stays in good spirit and he’ll be back in no time.”
Furphy started in 21 of 35 appearances this season, his second in the NBA. He averaged 5.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
