Gabe McGlothan gets call-up from Boom, signs 10-day contract with Pacers
Indiana uses hardship exception amid injuries, calling up forward Gabe McGlothan after a strong run with the Noblesville Boom. Plus: more than a dozen transactions, and Monte Morris heads overseas.
The Pacers applied for and were granted a hardship exception, confirming that Aaron Nesmith (left knee) and Ben Sheppard (left calf) will miss at least the next two weeks due to injury.
The front office then turned to one of its own, calling up forward Gabe McGlothan from the Noblesville Boom and signing him to a 10-day contract.
He will wear No. 41.
McGlothan already had a uniform and team gear, having spent training camp with the Pacers before being waived on Oct. 17 as the team set its opening night roster.
Prior to that, McGlothan was acquired by the Boom from Grand Rapids in a three-team G League trade that sent Pedro Bradshaw to Salt Lake City. He signed an Exhibit 10 contract on Sept. 23 — a training-camp deal that allows teams to retain a player’s G League rights.
McGlothan becomes the 28th player in Boom franchise history to receive a G League call-up. Boom general manager Chris Taylor often reinforces three messages with his team:
“Embrace the grind”
“Better basketball opportunities”
“Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready”
By signing on Tuesday, McGlothan will have two practices with the Pacers ahead of Thursday’s home game against the New York Knicks. Like Ethan Thompson before him, the second-year player has not yet appeared in an NBA game.
The move also means McGlothan will not travel with the Boom to Orlando for the G League Winter Showcase, which begins Friday, Dec. 19.
A 6-foot-7 forward, McGlothan provides size and strength on the perimeter. He is averaging 16.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.9 steals per game this season with the Boom.
Better yet, he has scored at least 20 points in three of his last five games, including performances of 27 and 22 points (on 53% shooting) over the weekend.
Pacers team president Kevin Pritchard, executive vice president Ted Wu, and senior vice president of player personnel Ryan Carr have each been courtside at Boom games this month.
With two-way guards Quenton Jackson and Taelon Peter both healthy, plus the return of rookie Kam Jones, Indiana currently has depth at the point guard position.
How unique is this position for the Pacers? Six players leaguewide have signed 10-day contracts this season — four with them and two with the Grizzlies.
Note: Players may sign up to two 10-day contracts per team, per season.

Monte Morris Heads Overseas
After appearing in six games with the Pacers last month, Monte Morris has elected to continue his playing career overseas in the EuroLeague for the first time.
Last week, Morris signed with Olympiacos B.C. in Greece.
“Have to love this game of basketball,” he tweeted on Saturday. “It’s taken me all over the world. Thank you God for another opportunity. Wheels up to Athens.”
The Iowa State University product entered the NBA in 2017 and has played for six franchises: Nuggets, Wizards, Pistons, Timberwolves, Suns, and Pacers.
