Pacers share inspiration behind new City Edition uniforms for 2023-24 season
There's a new one each season. And the Pacers' one is special because it features several firsts. They'll make their on-court debut Fri., Nov. 3 v Cleveland.
The NBA officially announced the City Edition Nike uniforms for its teams this season. The 2023-24 season is the seventh consecutive year that a new uniform, outfitted by Nike, is created for each team to celebrate their city.
For the Pacers, this one is even more special because there’s several firsts.
Previous seasons either had “Pacers” or “Indiana” across the front. This one is all about Indy.
The team's official colors are navy, yellow and cool gray — but for the first time, the base color of the uniform is black.
There’s a custom City home court to go with it.
They were designed by an Indiana native.
The Pacers will wear these uniforms for 16 games this season, including 13 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. And for at least 11 games, they will also have a custom court to pair with them. It is the team’s first time have a specially-designed court for their City Edition uniforms. (They will play on their in-season tournament court for at least two games.)
This matches what I exclusively shared with Fieldhouse Files subscribers in August. And, as usual, the uniforms look even better in person than in the drawings.
These uniforms were designed in house by Renick Bowman, an Indiana native and graduate of Carmel High School. He’s in his fifth season with the team and is supremely talented.
The team store is already selling city gear, much more than just the uniforms.
Details on the design:
The Indiana Pacers 2023-24 City Edition shows what is Indy and THIS is INDY. The uniform is inspired by the natural city canvas provided by the streets and buildings. The graffiti and street art unifies and showcases the community as vibrant, colorful, and always changing. Right in the heart of Basketball Country comes a team that represents every neighborhood from Broad Ripple to Fountain Square, from Speedway to Carmel.
The new uniform pays homage directly to the city of Indianapolis with a sleek black base representing the dark night sky paired with the neon blue and yellow to signify the vibrant city lights. The paint splatters on the side of the uniform resemble fresh spray paint when graffitiing a wall which signifies the unity that graffiti and street art bring around the city.
The wordmark across the is shortened to “INDY” which is the nickname for the city of Indianapolis referred to across the state. The shorts feature the Team Primary Icon with a spray painted finish while the font also follows the theme of graffiti and street art with hand letters to look like they were painted with a wide brush. The waistband shows state pride with an outline of the state of Indiana.
