Tyrese Haliburton’s eventful offseason includes rehab, a proposal, and WWE’s SummerSlam
Six weeks after Achilles surgery, Haliburton is progressing in rehab — and keeping busy with a memorable proposal in Ames and a surprise cameo at WWE SummerSlam.
Tyrese Haliburton is no longer restricted to getting around on scooter. That’s an encouraging new development for the Pacers’ All-Star guard.
It’s the offseason so Haliburton has more free time. Less than usual because he’s mostly rehabbing from a torn right Achilles tendon, however, certainly more time than he’s had the last two summers due to commitments with USA Basketball.
“…My journey to get to where I am today wasn’t by happenstance, I’ve pushed myself every day to be great. And I will continue to do just that,” he wrote, in part, to fans after surgery.
Today marks exactly six weeks since Haliburton had surgery to repair his torn Achilles. The procedure was completed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and Haliburton was back in the area Sunday for a special event.
He was at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for WWE’s SummerSlam event. He heard thousands of boos when he was first introduced on the broadcast, which he embraced. Knicks fans are angry that he and the Pacers knocked them out of the NBA Playoffs the past two years.
Haliburton made his way to his ringside seat on crutches — not using the scooter that we’ve seen recently at Fever games and the WNBA All-Star game. It’s likely that he still uses it at times, but this is another step in his return. Two weeks ago, he was putting 50% body weight on his leg, with crutches.
Haliburton and family members sat ringside, and John Cena even got him involved — by taking one of his crutches to use during a match.
Haliburton is a big WWE fan and he even has two t-shirts for sale on their official store.
Meanwhile, Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum is about five weeks ahead of him and when Tatum was about six weeks in, here’s what he tweeted: “Day 45… this is some bullshit”
So it’s going to get more challenging and exhausting for Haliburton before it gets better, but he’s making good progress. However, the Pacers have already ruled him out for next season. No surprise there.
Haliburton’s Marriage Proposal
The weekend before was even more special for Haliburton and his family.
