Resolution in Pacers rookie Kam Jones’ traffic stop case
An update on Indiana Pacers rookie Kam Jones following his traffic stop and arrest this week in Indianapolis.
One week ago, Indiana Pacers rookie Kam Jones was facing two preliminary charges after being pulled over on southbound I-65 for alleged erratic driving. Police said he failed to immediately stop but ultimately pulled over near the Fletcher Avenue exit, just east of downtown Indianapolis. That delay led to a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement in addition to the traffic violation.
Jones was booked into the Adult Detention Center and later released on $1,000 bail, according to a source.
By the next day, on Tuesday, he was back at practice and took a moment to apologize to the organization and fans afterward through the media.
“It won’t happen again,” he said. “Deeply sorry to the organization and looking forward to letting this go past and get back to work.”
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle expressed confidence that it would be resolved quickly.
“My feeling is that this is gonna turn out to be a speeding ticket and probably not much more,” Carlisle said. “The kid thought he was gonna be late to practice so he’s going too fast.”
Jones was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 23.
However, a different source told Fieldhouse Files that the prosecutor has decided not to file formal charges at this time. It serves as a learning moment for Jones — and the rest of the Pacers.
The Pacers departed Indianapolis on Friday afternoon for Memphis, where they’ll open a three-game road trip that also includes stops in Minneapolis on Sunday and Dallas on Wednesday.
