Pacers bring back James Wiseman on 10-day contract
Indiana turns to Wiseman amid mounting injuries, with Tony Bradley's status in question after fracturing his right thumb in a home loss to New York.
Four days after the Pacers (6-21) called up forward Gabe McGlothan from the G League, signing him to a 10-day contract, the team released him.
They need the roster spot after another injury.
The Pacers then brought back center James Wiseman, signing him to a 10-day contract Saturday morning. That was done because the status of backup center Tony Bradley is obviously a concern.
Bradley suffered a fractured right thumb at the end of the first half Thursday in their loss to the New York Knicks. He scored the final two points of the half — at the foul line — but was grimacing after the injury occurred with 9.2 seconds left on a rebound.
Then at the other end, Bradley clinched his right hand while playing defense on the final possession.
He did not return in the second half; he was ruled out at halftime.
Wiseman is in New Orleans and will be active for tonight’s game, the team says. He’s almost 14 months removed surgery to repair his torn left Achilles tendon.
The Pacers’ depth at center: Jay Huff, Isaiah Jackson, Tony Bradley, and now James Wiseman.
This is the Pacers’ 17th and 18th transaction of the season — less than two months in. And the first 10-day contract for Wiseman, who was brought back on a non-guaranteed standard deal on July 7. But he was then waived on Oct. 28 and replaced by Mac McClung.
Already, the Pacers are without Tyrese Haliburton, Obi Toppin, Aaron Nesmith, and Ben Sheppard. Plus, rookie guards Kam Jones and Taelon Peter are with the Noblesville Boom at the G League Winter Showcase.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans are just 6-22, but they’ve won their last three games. That includes an impressive 133-128 overtime victory over the Rockets on Thursday.
They will be without Dejounte Murray, who is rehabbing from a torn right Achilles.
The Pacers have lost three games in a row, and are now on the road for games in New Olreans and Boston.
